“I came here for a bit of business, and this is just too overwhelming. I am really very thankful and honored for this recognition.”

When Broadway star and producer Shea Arender was offered to host some corporate events in the Philippines, he took it as the perfect opportunity to finally set foot in the country and to personally meet the very popular local TV star Maine ‘Yaya Dub’ Mendoza to discuss a possible collaboration, and for a bit of sightseeing.

Shea also included in his itinerary a visit in Child Haus, a local charitable institution for children with cancer, and the Philippine Institute for the Deaf.

“It was truly an amazing experience,” said the United Nations awardee, who in his own personal way is also an advocate for the welfare of children all over the world.

His visits in these two institutions were very personal and without any fanfares. Unexpectedly, Shea’s gesture impressed SPMUDA (Southern Philippines Muslim Non-Muslim Unity & Development Association, Inc.) International Organization for Peace and Development, a registered NGO (non-government organization) with the United Nations, whose mission is to give every child the right to survive and thrive, to be educated, and to be free from violence.

The Broadway star was very surprised when the organization announced he was chosen as one of their Peace Awardees and Honorees in celebration of Universal Children’s Day with the theme of “Stop Violence Against Children.”

“It was totally unexpected. I still feel like I do not deserve such recognition. I feel that I have now a bigger responsibility to spread awareness that our children is our hope for a better world, and that every children deserves a better future,” said Shea.

For Shea, this is a very good beginning of his ‘love affair’ with the Philippines. “Yes, I fell in love with the Philippines! I am very excited to come back next year to push through with all the projects running inside my head,” the Broadway star happily said in closing.

Attending the ceremony are France UN Ambassador Hon. Gion Gounet, Rep. Rodolfo Biazon, Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime R. Fresnedi, and DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman, among others, which will be held in Festival Mall, Alabang, Muntinlupa City, this November 20, 2015.
